Welcome to Ballard!

Once the center of Scandinavian culture in Seattle, in recent years Ballard has become a haven for eclectic food and unique atmosphere! Only a few minutes away from all of the Seattle landmarks that may be on your to do list, Ballard is the perfect place to experience the way that the locals live. But with all of the amazing spots around your front door, we wouldn’t be surprised if you never left the neighborhood! Here’s our idea of a perfect day wandering around Ballard.

Starting the Morning Off Right!

Start the morning off by walking down to our favorite coffee stop, Biscuit and Bean. Obviously we recommend their biscuits (it’s in the name, after all), but you absolutely have to try their cappuccino. Made with all local milk and Pacific Northwest roasted coffee beans, it’s the best cup of Seattle you’ll find. Be prepared to wait though, the lines can get pretty long but it’s totally worth it.

An Afternoon in Old Town Ballard

After sipping your coffee and munching down your breakfast, we recommend heading south toward Market Street. The heart of Old Town Ballard, Market is the perfect spot to wander, shop, and enjoy everything that Ballard has to offer. Pop into Sonic Boom Records and experience a blast from the past as your comb through vinyls, new and old!

Wander through the shelves in the Secret Garden Bookshop, searching for your next reason to stay up far too late in the evening than is responsible.

Catch a movie in the beautifully historic Majestic Bay Theater. The modern, three story theater is absolutely stunning; mahogany wainscoting and dark granite counters have this place screaming “luxury!”

For an amazing and eclectic find, walk over to Ballyhoo Curiousity Shop. The perfect blend an antique store and a natural history museum, you’re sure to find the perfect souvenir from your Seattle getaway!

A few blocks away from Market Street, you’ll find the Ballard Locks. Built over a century ago to help elevate maritime traffic in Seattle, the locks are now an awesome place to spend an afternoon and watch the boats pass through the canal. The kids will love watching the salmon swim up the fish ladder!

In the Evening…

For dinner, we recommend La Isla for a delicious and memorable Puerto Rican meal! Try the Pernil Pastelon! Layers of sweet plantains, mozzarella cheese and slow roasted pulled pork make this Caribbean-style lasagna unbelievably mouthwatering.

If you’re in the mood for lighter fair and some amazing drinks, check out Ocho on Market Street. The intimate space is perfect for sparkling conversation over some unique drinks and seasonal tapas.

And nothing compares to watching the sunset at Golden Gardens park. One of our personal favorite public gardens in Seattle, Golden Gardens is a spectacular waterfront park with views of the Puget Sound with the Olympic Mountains peaking up over the water. Walk along the rugged coastline and explore the sandy beaches, or maybe cast a line off of the dock. It truly is the perfect end to your perfect day in Ballard.
